49 of 49 :-) done done done !!!

We are DONE !! All 49 stores, in one day (24 hour period). The trip ended in Brandon at 5:35am. We then drove back to Winnipeg. Both very, very tired. Dave is getting some well earned sleep, and when he gets up, he'll post all the updates. Myself, I have to be up for work by 2, so I'm hitting the sack right now. Why?

The goal on Monday is for myself and Dave to go to every 7-Eleven in our province. There are 49 locations, most in the city (Winnipeg) but some not. Some, very, very far away (Dauphin). At each store, we will buy someone a 44oz Slurpee (they choose flavour). We then get picture of them with the drink. We're also going to record some info about each store, such as how many taps they have, what's in them, and the quality. Some people have asked why we're doing this. It's a good question, but the answer isn't easy to put into words. At best, because no one has ever done it before? We like the drinks? We're just a tad not right? The idea came about because our buddy Chris, who now lives in a desolate barren area devoid of a 7-Eleven (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) is coming to town for vacation. The man loves Slurpees. Last time he was here, he had 3 a day. A year later, he rises to feed once again. So we knew July 11th (visit www.slurpee.com) was coming up, before he got here. Dave & I wanted to somehow honour him. And so the big tour came to be. My bread & butter is broadcasting, and I knew this would make for one funky story. And I couldn't do it without an official interview from 7-Eleven. I did contact 7-Eleven a few weeks ago, but after my first call and an email, I didn't hear back from them in time to produce this thing before July 11th (the original timeline was to make the run on July 5th). Call it my nature, but I can't just hop in the car and go to all 49 stores. I needed production value on this. So instead of it becoming a story I was going to do myself, I decided to let others spread the word. The trip would now be July 11th, same day as everyone is getting in a lather about Slurpee Day. Seemed to fit well enough. I don't have to have a story in the can a few days before it airs, and the news stations can have a new spin on a story that we all used to cover only because we got paid to get a Slurpee! I mean nothing bad by that of course. But depending on the news of the day, Slurpee Day might be one camera and all B-roll, or get the 1st story slot with coverage from SkyChpper11. If we get our name in print, our faces on TV, so be it. We're just to average guys doing something some people might find interesting. We are not sponsored by anyone on this venture. 7-Eleven is not paying us, nor giving us any sweet shwag (not that we know of, but one can always hope, eh?). The whole cost of the day is coming from my wallet. $87 for the drinks, a tank or two of gas, food, it's all my own cash. Probably more than $200 by the end of it. I need to get some sleep. -John Interesting Item #1 Depending if we end our day in Dauphin or Winnipeg, we will spend anywhere from 9 to 14 hours just on the highways.
